My copy of Jean Godfrey-June's book about her career in makeup and magazines arrived last night and I am already on page 150. In case you don't know, Jean is the beauty director at Lucky and also worked at ELLE for a stint. First of all, any glimpse into that world that I COVET is much appreciated. And Jean lays it out there: her thoughts about PR and marketing people, the Fifi awards, the bags upon bags of loot she receives every day (sigh). She also gives golden advice, for instance she regales us with a story of being made up by Lauren Hutton who taught her how to make her nose appear slimmer with a stripe of concealer down the middle. Her Northern California upbringing amongst scientist parents is highly comical. She apparently went through an Anglophile phase due to an overdose of Masterpiece Theatre growing up and christened her relatives with an "ington" at the end of their names. As in, Dadington, Gramington, Laurington. Hilarious. My one criticism is that the words "wildly" and "compelling" and even "wildly compelling" appear on nearly every page. But I will finish the book tonight in a mere few hours.
I loved that book as well. Quick read, but some really great info. I just wish I had her job!!
