I met makeup artist Julia Dalton-Brush on a Clarins press trip and she's since become one of my favorite people. The fellow Flywheel fanatic and mom is launching a new website called Fit Journey, geared toward overweight and obese people trying to get back into fitness or into it for the first time. She's just as savvy about concealers and the best spin instructors as she is about life in general, so I asked her to share her Five Rules For Life. Here they are, in Julia's words.
1. Always
make sure everyone who enters your home is comfortable and welcomed.
It has
always been so important to me that anyone in my home feels as comfortable as
possible. Make sure you surround yourself with people who are welcoming to
everyone in your world and that way all of your worlds (home, work, mommy, etc.)
can collide beautifully and smoothly.
2. Don’t
ruin opportunities by being impulsive.
Too many
people want to be the best right away and not take the time to become the best
- or one of. You can't run a marathon without starting out being winded
running a block.
3. Look
people in the eye when you have a conversation.
It seems
like looking people in the eye has become a lost art. There is a
level of respect and honesty that goes along with looking people in the eye
when speaking to them.
4. Don't be
a victim.
I’m not
saying don’t minimize something if is actually a big deal. I’m saying the
“whoa is me, why does everything happen to me” mentality will get you nowhere.
Remember everyone has problems, many people – most likely – have yours,
it’s how you deal with them that shows your true character.
5. Life
doesn’t have to be so complicated.
This goes from learning how to put a simple face of makeup on to
completely changing your career. Things are as complicated as you make
them and, sometimes, you just need to take a breath, empty your head and
realize it’s just not that complicated.
Thanks, Julia! Stay tuned for more Five Rules.
