Sponsored Post: It's Hip To Be Square

Jack Dorsey (maybe you know of him, he founded a little site called Twitter) recently launched a new platform to accept debit and credit cards on a mobile device. The device is a small square-like object that has the ability to be attached to devices such as an iPhone, iPad or laptop. It's a mini card reader which allow you to swipe someone's card, choose an amount to give to the recipient and then sign their name for confirmation. Square is also a system for sending paperless receipts via text message or email, and is available as a free app for iOS and Android OS.

Sounds pretty game-changingly necessary, right?  To set up your account and learn more, read on...

The processing fees are:
2.75% + 15¢ for swiped transactions
3.5% + 15¢ for keyed-in transactions

There are no activation, gateway, monthly, early termination, PCI compliance, or hidden fees. Nor are there any additional costs to use Square. Every card has the same flat rate. You may also accept debit cards, however, there is not a place for a pin, so they are run just like credit.

Square's fees are taken out of each transaction as they occur, so there is no fee schedule. Square also does not require a contract upon signup and since they only charge per transaction, it doesn't cost you anything if you don't use it.

To set up your Square account, the first step is to download the Square app onto your mobile device or go to squareup.com and sign up there. Once the App is installed, you will be asked to create a Square account with a user name and password. You may then apply to accept credit cards, and if approved, we will ship a card reader to the address you provide.

Once you've logged in, select the blue button labeled "‬Continue activation". ‬There, you can fill out your account information and request a free card reader by clicking the blue "Accept payments cards" button. You will be prompted to answer several questions to verify your identity.

When you have completed this process, and are approved to use Square, please click the "Request a free reader" blue button to place your address into their shipping queue. Square also recommends you take this opportunity to add and verify your bank account by clicking "Add bank account" and filling out the appropriate information.
