Oh hey, guys! Welcome to Wash Me Amadeus Week! Re: Dermalogica: I LURVE this stuff. If you're having mild-medium adult acne probs, this could save you a trip to the dermatologist. Dermalogica's Clearing Skin Wash is a non-irritating, naturally-foaming cleanser that provides around-the-clock control of breakouts and excess surface oils. It contains Salicylic Acid to slough off dead skin cells to clear clogged pores, helping to prevent future breakouts. Soothing, naturally-antiseptic extracts of Balm Mint, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Burdock and Camphor calm congested skin. Contains no artificial fragrance or color. It's not quite so cheap at $47 for 16.9 oz, but you get your money's worth. Here's why. First, you need only use a pea-sized amount each time you wash. Be sure to keep it out of your eye area. In fact, I normally just scrub my eye makeup off with my face wash, but this one expressly recommends you refrain from doing that. So when I Dermalogica, I use a separate eye makeup remover. Lately, I'm loving Lancome Bi-Facil, $26. It's non-irritating for contact lens wearers and gently removes even waterproof mascara, no easy feat.
Anywho, Dermalogica is pretty economical as I find you only need to use it for a week here and there. Once my skin calms down (and it's been WAY less oily all around - this makes a GREAT summer skin wash), I return to using something designed for more balanced skin. More on those choices later. I'll use my regular wash for another 3-4 weeks or until my skin starts freaking out again and then will break out my interim prod, Dermalogica again. Also, as my friend Leah pointed out, it IS a bit drying. Make sure you have a good oil-free moisturizer on hand to combat dryness. But dryness, while annoying, is a small price to pay for clear skin. I 100% agree on your assessment of the Dermologica face wash. I indeed started using this (based on your pre-blog recommendation) and it has totally put my adult acne to rest, which even harsh prescribed creams could not do. One caveat to your blog though, if you really do suffer from acne, you should use this cleanser every day. My dermatologist was very clear that when treating acne a few things to always keep in mind are A) when using a product to control acne ie not zit cream, use it on your entire face. Do not spot treat. B) you should use a product consistently for 3 months to expect long term results. For those just trying to tame some oiliness, a less rigid regimen as you suggested would probably suffice. If you are taming acne though, this can be a bit drying and I've found using the product 1x per day has totally done the trick. Thanks for another amazing rec, BBJ!

ReplyDeleteI totally agree about the general brilliance of Dermalogica. Having suffered with adult acne (now knocking on 34!) its totally depressing to keep trying things that just don't work. The antibac skin wash is fantastic and I also use the daily microfoliant which keeps my skin smooth and also the Mediacted clearning gel which is great for an extra boost round those hormonal times when things can get a bit worse. My skin is so much better now, and even though Dermalogica is a bit more expensive than I would want to pay its totally worth it!

You are so right. getting spots when you are too old for micro mini skirts is so unfair! Oily skin and makeup sliding down your face is also not a good look. And leah is right, if you do suffer from acne then this product should become part of your dailygrooming routine. This product really does help. The medicated clearing gel is also a good stand by for times when your oily skin fights back.
