Makeup Artist Julie Harris Dishes About Anne Hathaway's Makeup for a Special Screening of Get Smart

Last Thursday, Lancôme hosted a special screening of Get Smart with Anne Hathaway at the private Core Club in New York City. The screening benefited the Lollipop Theater Network, a charitable organization with which Anne is highly involved. By providing first-run movies, volunteers like Anne bring cheer to children with serious illnesses who miss seeing these films in the theater due to their long hospital stays. As Lancôme’s newest ambassadress and the face of Magnifique (the fragrance that debuts this August), Anne made Lancôme proud as she mingled with guests and talked to them about her involvement with the charity.

Celebrity makeup artist Julie Harris did Anne’s makeup for the screening and gave us the scoop on how to recreate the look. Anne has the most gorgeous porcelain skin (she’s a major proponent of sunscreen) so Julie played up her eyes, cheeks and lips. She used Lancôme black liquid Artliner on the upper lash line to make Anne’s eyes pop and added a few coats of Lancôme Hypnôse mascara, giving her lashes a boost of volume and length. Julie added just a touch of color to the apples of the cheeks with Giorgio Armani Sheer Cream Blush #2. She set the look by dusting Laura Mercier translucent powder all over Anne’s face. Julie opted for a soft neutral colored pout and finished the look with Lancôme Color Design Lipcolor in B-List.

Anne looks gorge, n'est-ce pas?

Beauty-Inspired Flops

Saks Fifth Avenue and Havaianas have launched the "Beauty Splash" collection, which benefits charity: water, a non-profit initiative bringing clean water and basic sanitation into impoverished communities.

In stores for the month of June, the collaboration pairs Havaianas and three of the most famous women in beauty – Trish McEvoy, Laura Mercier, and Bobbi Brown.

Trish McEvoy says of her design: "My colors this season brighten your complexion and call to mind the deep blues of the ocean, the pearlescent shades inside a seashell, and the glitter of the sand-taking you on an instant vacation."

Laura Mercier says: "A comfortable sandal should be as comfortable as wearing the lipstick on your lips."

Bobbi Brown created a pair that reflects the spirit of summer. She says: "The beach is where I go to unwind with my family, so I keep things easy by wearing sunscreen, simple makeup and a fun pair of flip-flops."

For the entire month of June, Saks Fifth Avenue will be offering its customers these special edition Havaianas on saks.com and, from June 8-22, at all store locations for a retail price of $15, with any two cosmetics or fragrance purchases (while supplies last). $1 from each purchase up to $200,000 will be donated to charity: water.

"D, As In... Denise Richards" Makeup Faves

The title refers to my weird handicap of not being able to produce the appropriate alphabet-related word that goes with each letter when you need to spell something out for someone. For some asinine reason, I can ONLY come up with the most inappopriate, ridiculous words. Empirically, I know it's "D as in David"... but when I'm in the moment, all I can think of is "D as in Dippin' Dots." Or something equally stupid. Anyway, once I was spelling the name of an employee when I was creating a name badge for him at a conference at my last job (a big 4 audit firm) and "D as in Denise Richards" came out. Needless to say, the employee was quite taken aback.

So I got word that on the set of her new show, It's Complicated, Denise is using VIP Expert by Terry Light Liquid Foundation ($48). I've tried this stuff out at Space.NK, and it's pretty divine. It comes in a big, fat purple-for-Prince click-pen and absolutely erases away imperfections, dull skin, and shadows. It includes hydra-smoothing hyaluronic acid microspheres that blend into the skin tissues. It also houses a skin-plumper to target hollow areas (expression lines, crow's feet, creases, etc.) and expands with water to recreate volume. The best part? The foundation's anti-aging youth catalyst composed of seven anti-aging substances. Which are apparently secret, because I can't find out what they are for the life of me.

Other Denise faves? I hear from my little bird that she also loves Laura Mercier products (that's what her makeup artist uses on her) and a vast array of bronzers, which comes as no surprise. She's always tanned up to the max.

Q&A: Prom Eye Makeup

Sunshine asks:
Q: I'm 18 and my prom is this Friday, April 18th. I was thinking about getting my makeup done, but I've had a few too many unfortunate experiences with getting it done professionally. So, I decided that I'd do it myself.
My dress is silky black with silver as the secondary color. Any ideas as to what I should do with my eye makeup?

A: Sunshine, what a phenom question. I am loving that you're wearing a silky black slash silver dress on the big night. I'm NERV because your prom is in five minutes and I'm on 15 diff deadlines right now, but this blog was born from procrastination and also? You had me at "prom." I love a prom. I have a few recommendations for you, OBV.

Thierry Mugler Regard Stellaire in Starry Night
I'm living for this quartet of smoky seduction. It includes a white shimmer shade, a rich sparkly charcoal, a neutral beige and a straight up flat black. I'd recommend lining your eyes with the black using a liner brush, use the white up by the brow bone (SPARINGLY) to highlight, and then apply the charcoal to the outer corner and on the lid below the crease for a siren-worthy smoky grey eye.

Now, I realize the link I've sent you to is for Sephora in France because this shadow isn't sold in the US until May. Since you can't wait that long, I recommend Bourjois Paris' Eye Shadow Trio in Les Argents ($19) which is pictured at left.

Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc in Orchid Mosaic ($38)
This 4-color palette features a shimmery range of 2 pinks, a champagne and a plum. It includes a mirror (don't think about going promming without one) and is encased in Laura's signature purple compact packaging. I'd recommend using the lightest pink all over and shading with the plum in the outer corners and on the lower lid. Line eyes with ck Calvin Klein Ultimate Edge Gel Eyeliner ($16) in African Voilet, a deep plum.

Lastly, I deeply recommend false eyelashes to add a sense of occasion. My faves are Revlon Fantasy Lengths Self-Adhesive Eyelashes. They're sold at drugstores for a mere $7 and last the whole night. Best of all? They're reusable. Wear the flirty length and channel Twiggy.

Have THE most fun at your prom, Sunshine! Pity anyone with the misfortune of standing next to your gorge self in pics. Report back and tell us how it went!

xoxo,
Fabulista

P.S. Stay tuned for promtastic hair recommendations later this week.
