Makeup Artist Julie Harris Dishes About Anne Hathaway's Makeup for a Special Screening of Get Smart

Last Thursday, Lancôme hosted a special screening of Get Smart with Anne Hathaway at the private Core Club in New York City. The screening benefited the Lollipop Theater Network, a charitable organization with which Anne is highly involved. By providing first-run movies, volunteers like Anne bring cheer to children with serious illnesses who miss seeing these films in the theater due to their long hospital stays. As Lancôme’s newest ambassadress and the face of Magnifique (the fragrance that debuts this August), Anne made Lancôme proud as she mingled with guests and talked to them about her involvement with the charity.

Celebrity makeup artist Julie Harris did Anne’s makeup for the screening and gave us the scoop on how to recreate the look. Anne has the most gorgeous porcelain skin (she’s a major proponent of sunscreen) so Julie played up her eyes, cheeks and lips. She used Lancôme black liquid Artliner on the upper lash line to make Anne’s eyes pop and added a few coats of Lancôme Hypnôse mascara, giving her lashes a boost of volume and length. Julie added just a touch of color to the apples of the cheeks with Giorgio Armani Sheer Cream Blush #2. She set the look by dusting Laura Mercier translucent powder all over Anne’s face. Julie opted for a soft neutral colored pout and finished the look with Lancôme Color Design Lipcolor in B-List.

Anne looks gorge, n'est-ce pas?

Lancôme to Launch New Vibrating Brush Mascara This Fall

This fall, Lancôme will be launching Ôscillation, a mascara that provides a 360-degree coat around each and every lash. The vibrating brush provides no fewer than 7,000 vibrations per minute for the perfect formula application. Ôscillation has four patents for technology and formula and was created by a team led by Jean-Louis Guéret, the designer of all Lancôme mascara brushes. The King of Mascara, Guéret has been the father of nearly 400 mascaras during his illustrious career.

I'm so looking forward to this one, friends. Lancôme mascaras are my absolute FAVE.

Battle of the Bronzers: L'Oreal vs. Lancome

It's rumored that L'Oreal's and Lancome's products are simply the exact same formulas; one is just packaged in a more high-end manner thus driving up the price. For certain products it's true: I find L'Oreal's Color Juice is a real competitor against Lancome's famed Juicy Tubes. I decided to put L'Oreal Sublime Bronze ProPerfect Airbrush Self-Tanning Mist in a death match against Lancome Flash Bronzer Airbrush Self Tan Spray. The results are in.

I have mixed feelings about this L'Oreal Sublime Bronze, dollfaces. Here's what I like about L'Oreal Sublime Bronze ProPerfect Airbrush Self-Tanning Mist in Medium:
1)The price: $10
2)Its lack of DHA odor
3)The airbrushed non-wet mist that doesn't feel gross when you apply it
4)The color the Medium one produces is perfect for WINTER
5)It's very user-friendly - it yields no streaks

I don't love that (see number 4, above) the color isn't very appropriate for summer. In the summer, I like to be tan, bitches. Not a real, fried-myself-at-the-NJ-shore, going-to-look-45-by-the-time-I'm-30-tan - but I like to FAUX tan myself to a deep caramel. So while I hate the way Lancome's Flash Bronzer Airbrush Self Tan Spray ($28) makes me smell as if I just dived into a vat of quarters Scrooge MacDuck-style AND feels soaking wet as you apply it, it's still my Mem-Day-to-Labe Day Self-Tanner of Choice. It just gives me the oomph I need. I want my spray tan to be dramatic (within the confines of the 100 days of summer.) More dramatic, than, say, the dramatic part of Genesis' "In the Air Tonight" song. You know?

The winner is Lancome!

Lash Extensions... or Lancome?

After we left the Ted Gibson Salon on Wednesday, Kristen from TotalBeauty, who'd been sitting next to me at the interview, asked me if I'd had LASH extensions. Because my lashes were looking super-long. First of all. I immediately informed Kristen that we needed to hang out every MINUTE. Anyone who suggests I've had a beauty procedure when I haven't even is welcome in my lifestyle. Secondly: I'm not even sure how lash extensions work. I've been using Lancome DÉFINICILS ($23) and it is my new fave mascara. I'm deeply into the patented rubber brush (once you go rubber, you can't go back) that defines, separates, and minimizes clumps. My lashes are long and curl, naturally. They are indeed, my "moneymaker" as Mary Rambin says. But this mascara takes them to a whole other level. I recommend applying on TOP of your lashes and then sweeping it on underneath. I never understand how some women only blink it on underneath. I feel like the only person who sees you're wearing mascara when you apply it that way - is you.

Christopher Kane Takes Juicy Tubes on a World Tour

Lancôme has partnered with Christopher Kane on a project for the iconic, oft-imitated Juicy Tubes franchise. The result: The Juicy Tubes World Tour, nine new lip glosses, each decorated with an illustration by Christopher. The shades, names and flavors were born from Kane’s fashion travels. From Rio, where, according to Kane, "the girls have an incredible kind of beauty," to Paris, "the fashion capital of the world," to New York, where "girls are groomed, sophisticated and so well dressed," each captures the excitement of the hottest cities around.

The Lancôme-Christopher Kane relationship extended to the recent Spring and Fall 2008 shows where Lancôme did the makeup backstage.

The nine fashionable shades ($18 each) are:

*Red Hot New York
*Fifth Avenue Frosting
*Copacabana Coffee
*Rio Mango
*Grand Café Crème Brûlée
*Moulin Rose
*Paris Bubbly
*Tokyo Plum Blossom
*Peach Mochi

The Lancôme Christopher Kane Juicy Tubes are available at lancome-usa.com, the five Lancôme boutiques, specialty stores and counters nationwide.

Wash Me Amadeus Week: Dermalogica Medibac Clearing Skin Wash

Oh hey, guys! Welcome to Wash Me Amadeus Week! Re: Dermalogica: I LURVE this stuff. If you're having mild-medium adult acne probs, this could save you a trip to the dermatologist. Dermalogica's Clearing Skin Wash is a non-irritating, naturally-foaming cleanser that provides around-the-clock control of breakouts and excess surface oils. It contains Salicylic Acid to slough off dead skin cells to clear clogged pores, helping to prevent future breakouts. Soothing, naturally-antiseptic extracts of Balm Mint, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Burdock and Camphor calm congested skin. Contains no artificial fragrance or color.

It's not quite so cheap at $47 for 16.9 oz, but you get your money's worth. Here's why. First, you need only use a pea-sized amount each time you wash. Be sure to keep it out of your eye area. In fact, I normally just scrub my eye makeup off with my face wash, but this one expressly recommends you refrain from doing that. So when I Dermalogica, I use a separate eye makeup remover. Lately, I'm loving Lancome Bi-Facil, $26. It's non-irritating for contact lens wearers and gently removes even waterproof mascara, no easy feat.

Anywho, Dermalogica is pretty economical as I find you only need to use it for a week here and there. Once my skin calms down (and it's been WAY less oily all around - this makes a GREAT summer skin wash), I return to using something designed for more balanced skin. More on those choices later. I'll use my regular wash for another 3-4 weeks or until my skin starts freaking out again and then will break out my interim prod, Dermalogica again. Also, as my friend Leah pointed out, it IS a bit drying. Make sure you have a good oil-free moisturizer on hand to combat dryness. But dryness, while annoying, is a small price to pay for clear skin. In conjunction with the Zeno, you can kiss zits buh-bye. Have you tried Dermalogica? What do you think? Hope you had a fab weekend, dolls! Mine was great, thank you. I went to two birthday parties, caught up with my old roommate Erin, and got a fantastic treatment and rinse/gloss at the Hiro Haraguchi Salon. More on that later.

Lancome's Pixel Pink is Now Available!

The fourth and final lipstick in the Pout-à-Porter designer lipstick series makes its hotly anticipated debut today on lancome-usa.com. Lancôme Color Fever Shine Lipstick in Pixel Pink is a beautiful sheer raspberry shade created by celebrated emerging designer Thakoon and celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman for Thakoon’s Spring 2008 show.

The color came together at the hair and makeup test only days before the Spring show. Thakoon wanted something simple yet pretty that would complement the lush greens, pinks and blues in his collection, as well as the unique prints. One particular print, a pixilated floral that almost appears to have been faxed through a machine, was a key influence on the lipstick.

Beginning yesterday, Pixel Pink will be available in limited quantities on lancome-usa.com and on March 1st it will debut exclusively at Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Lancôme’s five U.S. boutiques with a suggested retail price of $25.

Pout-à-Porter is a celebration of Lancôme’s support of emerging designers. The previous three lipsticks were created for Behnaz Sarafpour (Fall 2006), Proenza Schouler (Spring 2007) and Peter Som (Fall 2007).

Gals, I'm loving this color! I can't wait to get my hands on some Pixel Pink myself.

Lancome Boutique Bash

On Saturday, I journeyed up to the Lancome Boutique on the Upper West Side for an evening of fashion and beauty!

I had the opportunity to purchase L'extreme Instant Extensions Lengthening Mascara and a limited edition, not-yet-available Juicy Tube created by London Designer Christopher Kane in Tokyo Plum Blossom, a light, shimmery violet. Speaking of Violet, I also scored a copy of Violet by Design, which I much look forward to reading. You know I love a good teen novel. I obv got it signed by my former mediabistro.com teacher Melissa Walker before leaving the event, 3 mocktails and several mini-cupcakes later.

Be back tomorrow with Tibi and Vivienne Tam coverage. Tonight, I'm attending Iodice and getting drinks at the Hotel QT which boasts an in-lobby pool! I can't wait to see it.
