Light and Shiny Pink Gloss

My friend Amber is one of my BEST friends. We've been friends since 1998 when we were in the same class at BU even though I was totes hesitant to let someone into my lifestyle with my formerly unique name. I felt sort of like Buzz Lightyear did when he found out he was mass-produced. You know? Anywho.

Amber and I ALWAYS have the same fight. She LOVES a light, shimmery pink gloss. And who doesn't? She has the right coloring for it (blonde with blue eyes) but she sometimes chooses one that even Norma Arnold herself would dismiss for being too pearlescent. The city limits between Amanda Sommers (pictured, left)City and Magdaville are so vague. The good news is that I've identified a PERF pink gloss.

Dior Ultra-Gloss Reflect in Tinsley Pink
I already notified you of the launch of this shimmery bubblegum pink gloss. I got to test it out yesterday and I am lurving it. It manages to be girly and fun without being too light, nor too silvery-reflective a la Magda.

Also, if you live in NYC, read on:
Tinsley Mortimer, the socialite who is the gloss's namesake, will make a
personal appearance at Saks NYC on Thursday May 15. Attendees can meet Tinsley and learn how to recreate her favorite day and night beauty looks using Tinsley Pink Ultra-Gloss Reflect. A portion of the proceeds from Tinsley Pink will
go to Operation Smile.

Thursday May 15th
12pm - 2pm
4pm - 6pm Masterclass - by appointment only
Call 212-940-2181 to call to reserve

*Between 2 and 4 Tinsley will be greeting customers on the floor

Dior Beauty Introduces Dior Ultra-Gloss Reflect in Tinsley Pink

Dior Ultra-Gloss Reflect in Tinsley Pink is the brand's first-ever product named for (and created by) a brand ambassador. Dior Beauty Ambassador and prominent New York socialite Tinsley Mortimer chose a feminine shade of sheer bubblegum pink. I think it looks like the quintessential spring pink gloss. Best of all? A portion of proceeds from the sale of Tinsley Pink will go to one of Tinsley's favorite charities, Operation Smile.

$24 and limited edition. Get on that shiz.

Kate Bosworth Rocks Dior Makeup at the 21 Premiere

Have I mentioned how much I cannot WAIT for the movie 21 to come out on the 28th? I adore movies about schools in Boston and am totally intrigued by math geniuses (fun fact: in Latin, the plural of genius is genii). I'd like to do an anthropological study of them. I find them exotic, as I am a person for whom math is intolerable. So when I got the scoop from Dior about Kate Bosworth's makeup for the Vegas premiere of the movie, I was naturally, right on top of that, Rose.

Dior Makeup Artist Pati Dubroff created fresh, rosy cheeks and lips and
for the eyes she used soft greys with a pop of gold to play off the
silver and gold in Kate's dress.

Here are the products Dubroff used:
Eyes: Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Sky Glow #009, Dior 1-Colour Eyeshadow in
Million-Dollar Gold #645 and DiorShow Mascara in Black
Lips: Dior Addict High-Shine Lipstick in Shine Pink #354
Cheeks: Dior Pro Cheeks in Catwalk Pink #755
Face: DiorSkin Airflash Foundation

I think she looks fab. What do you think?

P.S. This is my 500th post on BBJ! YAY.

Oscar Beauty Demystified

Hey gals!

I just got word about the cosmetics behind the looks of three of my fave Oscar beauties.

Miley Cyrus wowed in a crimson gown and fresh makeup thanks to Dior International Celebrity Makeup Artist Pati Dubroff. Said Dubroff of the look: "I was inspired by Miley's radiant
youth. It was all about glowing, gorgeous skin with flushed cheeks and a
popsicle-stained mouth. Then for the Oscar glam part-tons of black mascara
first and then blue mascara to top it off! The final touch was some 'fairy
dust' glitter-she's a Disney princess come to life!"

Eyes: DiorShow Mascara in Black and Blue, 1-Colour Eyeshadow in Icy White
Cheeks: Benetint by Benefit, Glitter by Makeup Forever
Lips: Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick in Flamenco Red

Presenter Keri Russell ("Waitress" and "August Rush") showed off her delicate beauty in a stunning neutral gown and makeup to match. Celebrity
Makeup Artist Mai Quynh
said she was inspired by Russell's "putty-colored
dress." Said Quynh: "I wanted the look to be ethereal and organic, like her dress and hair."
Eyes: DiorShow Mascara in Black
Cheeks: DiorShow Powder in Hip Peach
Lips: DiorKiss in Hazelnut Lychee

Laura Linney (nominated for her role in "The Savages") was as classy and sophisticated as ever thanks to Celebrity Makeup Artist Kristofer Buckle. "It's about simplistic, manicured beauty, very anti-trend," said Buckle of the look. "Laura is a strong, accomplished woman so I wanted the makeup to be all about her and enhancing her natural beauty."
Eyes: DiorShow Blackout Mascara
Lips: Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick in Casual Beige #222

Q&A: Follow Up Q Regarding Mascara and Concealer

Q: The other important question I should have asked, besides guessing at the product categories, was what items should I apply, and in what order. Like, do you always wear foudation, blush/cheek, liner, mascara, concealer, lip gloss? And: shadows. Always wear, sometimes wear, etc. Concealer? or just more of the foundation?
Thanks! You're the BEST!
Beauty Wannabe

A: Unless I'm going to the gym or doing a "no makeup day" which includes VERY minimal makeup (just concealer, balm and mascara, BTW), I have a very specific product list. This is my everyday look, the one I rock to work and during the day on weekends. I rarely wear no makeup (unless I have a tan). Here's my everyday list, in the right order. I usually don't wear shadow unless I'm going out or if I have time.
Concealer (I apply at the beginning and a bit more at the end as well)
Tinted Moisturizer (I like Laura Mercier's) or Foundation, depending on how my skin looks
Either a Blush Stick or a Bronzing Stick (sometimes a combo of both)
Pencil Liner on the top lashes only
Non-dramatic, but effective Mascara
Balm or Gloss

We've gone over all components of this list except for mascara and concealer. Here's what I recommend. I've limited the selection to two per category for you although, obviously, there are SEVERAL I adore.

Concealer
One of my favorites is Laura Mercier Secret Concealer. There are others included in the list to which I linked that are also good.

Also great: Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Maximum Coverage Concealer $18. Here's a review I did for it for TotalBeauty.com:

This tiny mirrored compact won't waste precious purse real estate. A yellow-based concealer, it erases dark circles and hydrates just enough to mask fine lines. Lightweight, yet full coverage with a matte finish that yields non-greasy, even-toned skin. Long-wearing but easily blendable product is best used for the undereye area – those with oily skin should avoid it for blemish camouflaging. Other imperfections (acne scars, etc.) run screaming when spackled with a bit of the product applied with a concealer brush.

Mascara
Prescriptives False Eyelashes Plush Mascara $19.50 has wowed me. It's not quite as dramatic as Diorshow, but does the job - I love how black the black is. I use it during the day because I like just a tad more drama at night, usually along the lines of Fiberwig or the aforementioned Diorshow.

L'Oreal Lash Architect $6 (pictured above)
Lash Architect launched while I was in college, I believe, but it's still one of my favorite drug store mascaras. The brush glides well and the formula is enriched with jojoba and Vitamin B5 so that "new mascara bottle" feeling last a bit longer. Is there anything better than that, BTW? New Mascara Day is right up there with New Sheet Day (although obv, the latter happens more often).
