5 Pieces Of Makeup To Toss At The End Of Summer

You know you're supposed to throw out your makeup every so often, and the best way tomake sure you're on schedule is by enforcing a routine refresh every fall and spring. Here, a cheat-sheet for what to get rid of to make room for your fabulous fall finds.

1. Mattifying Moisturizers
Tinted or not, mattifying moisturizers are best for steamy, humid climates. Unless you're living south of the Mason-Dixon Line, it's best to toss ’em come September. For cooler fall temperatures, a dewy, fresh face is in order. Crisp weather is best accompanied by clean skin, structured brows and a bold berry lip. For a hint of luminescence, try Olay CC Cream Total Effects Tone Correcting Moisturizer paired with a bold lipstick, like CoverGirl LipPerfection Lip Color in Euphoria.

2. Mascara
You know you should be tossing your mascara every three months anyway, but fall is a good reminder — and a great time to test out a new formula. Fresh mascara works better to help you lengthen and volumize your lashes, anyway.

3. SPF
Sunscreen gets less potent after a year, so to be on the safe side, I toss mine after the summer. If you're really virtuous, you've used up your designated summer stash by reapplying as often as directed (every couple of hours). Get a fresh supply every summer to keep your skin at its healthiest.

4. Bronzer
They last up to two to three years, but if it's about that time, it's time to toss your bronzer. Just think, next season, you'll rock a new one that's even more fabulous. I promise. Whether your 2014 bronzer jam is light and natural, dark and contouring-friendly, shimmer or matte remains to be seen. In the meantime, give your old, tired, broken bronzer a rest.
