Confession: I have a mind-blowing secret. I know what you’re thinking—I’m the real Gossip Girl! Well, maybe, but that’s a different post entirely. Today’s secret is Zoya’s Fast Drops. This little bottle of magic is an oil that, once eye-dropped onto a fresh mani or pedi, gets your lacquered tips drier than my secret nerd crush Demetri Martin’s sense of humor. The drops’ most redeeming quality is that they exponentially speed up the drying process that usually makes nail art an excruciatingly time-consuming task, reserved for profesh-status manicurists and super-talented nail bloggers. Tutorials like these Lisa-Frank inspired cheetah print nails are a ten-minute task when each coat dries superfast.
Amber has already schooled you on the bedicure-preventing magic of Seche Vite, a product similar to Fast Drops, but there are a few crucial differences between the two. Zoya’s products don’t contain any formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, or toluene, which some people are sensitive to, though it’s still unclear whether they cause any long-term damage once mixed into beauty concoctions. Seche Vite is a cult product for good reason, but it contains toluene and a tiny warning label that claims some of its ingredients can cause birth defects. I’m not preggers (knock on wood) but the likes of Reese Witherspoon and Snooki better stay far, far away! The great lyricist T Swift once said, “looking so innocent, I might believe you if I didn’t know, coulda loved you all my life if you hadn’t left me waiting in the cold,” and I’m pretty sure she wrote that line about Seche Vite, not some jerk who wasn’t sorry, because the stuff is deceptively awesome despite its John Mayer-esque nature. The other big diffs: Fast Drops isn’t a top coat like Seche Vite, so you’ll still need to include that step in your mani before applying the drops. I recommend OPI Rapidry topcoat, to double your drying pleasure. Fast Drops also don’t permeate as deeply, so even the best mani is susceptible to dings if you go all Betty Draper and start breaking chairs all over the place.
Once you’ve applied a Fast Drop to each hot-pink leopard print nail, go ahead--crack open an ice cold Diet Coke. Shave your cat to look like a lion. Pop some birth control pills while your insurance still covers your prescription. Anything—just use your hands, because you can! It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you remember that you could be doing whatever you want seconds after you’ve finished your mani! Now that, beauties, is what I call freedom.
