Monday, February 28, 2011

Celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann painted Anne Hathaway’s nails in her new shade called Naked, a clean bare beige hue that complemented her porcelain skin as well as all of her outfits that she wore on stage.

Naked is available for $16 at deborahlippmann.com.

2011 Oscars Makeup: Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman looked glamazing on the on the red carpet at the 83rd annual Academy Awards in
Los Angeles last night. A pregnancy glow helps, but if you want to recreate the looks sans getting knocked up, here are all the deets.

Makeup artist Eileen Kastner-Delago created a glowing look for Natalie Portman, the face of Miss Dior Cherie. "I was inspired by her dress so I
went with more purple tones," said Kastner-Delago.

2011 Oscars Hairstyle How-to VIDEO: Melissa Leo

Melissa Leo's hairstyle was stunningly pants (in the words of Felicia Sullivan). The notorious F-bomb dropper (and speech not-writer-downer! Slash, love you, Melissa--you were all "get in the cah, we're going to find that MTV skank" in the movie. And it was Masshole-style epic.) I got the scoop on the steps to recreating this fabulous look at home, courtesy of Melissa Leo's 2011 Oscars stylist, Creighton Bowman, who used Leonor Greyl products. Check out the video and look below for all the steps.

Oscars 2011 Beauty: Hilary Swank's Makeup

Hilary Swank's 2011 Oscars makeup concept was created by makeup artist Monika Blunder. “I wanted to really play up Hilary’s eyes and I used her gorgeous Gucci Premiere couture dress with beautiful shades of grey and satin as my color inspiration,” shared makeup artist Monika. Read on to get Hilary's look, in the words of Monika.

2011 Oscars Makeup: Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson looked lovely at the 2011 Oscars last night. Loved her sexy bedroom waves and her makeup was SUBLIME. It's officially my favorite makeup look of the night. She's the makeup ambassador for Dolce&Gabbana The Make Up, as well as the fragrance ambassador for The One, L’eau The One and Rose The One, wore product exclusively from the Dolce&Gabbana Make Up range. For the complete beauty breakdown, read on...

2011 Oscars Makeup: Amy Adams

While Necklacegate 2011 rages on (why the superfluous jewelry, Amy?), I ADORED Amy Adams in The Fighter (Masshole is my favorite movie genre). She was just SO good, as was Christian Bale, who readily deserved his Oscar. I was bummed Amy didn't win one as well, though Melissa Leo was excellent in her role. Even if she didn't have a speech prepared. Melissa? I have an Oscar acceptance speech at the ready. And I'm not even an ACTRESS. Anyway, I'm totes off track. Amy's beautiful makeup look was “old Hollywood disco,” says makeup artist Molly Stern who noted the nominee left the room “radiating!”

The NARS products that Molly used in creating Amy’s look:

Oscars 2011 Beauty: Mila Kunis' Hair And Makeup Look

Mila Kunis looked ethereally gorge in a gossamer lavender gown and romantic updo and makeup. Read on for the complete hair and makeup breakdown for Mila Kunis' 2011 Oscars beauty look.

2011 Oscars Hair: Giuliana Rancic

I think we can all agree that Giuliana Rancic could stand to eat a sandwich, but I thought she looked exceptionally beautiful last night in her printed gown and elegant updo. I got the deets on the step-by-step on how to achieve her gorgeous look using Alterna products from her stylist. BT dubs, you can also get a free deluxe sample of Alterna’s Bamboo Kendi Pure Treatment Oil at Ulta while supplies last. Just go to the counter and ask. Easy peasy. That stuff's pure genius, by the by. The Alterna Bamboo Kendi line is the REASON I'm not crying myself to sleep over their discontinued TEN line.

Giuliana Rancic’s Step-by-step:

2011 Oscars Grooming: Colin Firth

Colin Firth, charmer extraordinaire and FOTF (Friend of Tom Ford, obv) looked his usual Mark Darcy sexy self when he accepted his award for Best Actor at the 2011 Oscars last night.

Men aren't exempt from the beautification process on Oscars night, and makeup artist Georgie Eisdell, who groomed Colin Firth for the red carpet used Kyoku for Men.

2011 Oscars Fashion: Cameron Diaz in Carolina Herrera

Cameron Diaz (whom I'm calling Gameron, in that dress) looks stunning at the 2011 Vanity Fair Oscar party on February 27, 2011 in California. Cameron Diaz wore a Carolina Herrera abstract leopard print lame one shoulder cocktail dress.

2011 Oscars Makeup: Mandy Moore

Didn't Mandy Moore have a personal beauty best last night? I've been missing her like candy. NARS worked with celebrity makeup artist Kayleen McAdams to create the look for the Tangled star. Check out the breakdowns of her respective looks:

2011 Oscars Hair: Gwyneth Paltrow

It was all about a sleek, straight, and simple hairstyle for Gwyneth Paltrow at the 2011 Oscars. Harry Josh, John Frieda International Creative Consultant, worked with Gwyneth to find a hairstyle that expressed her classic, elegant red carpet style. Says Harry, “Gwyneth was my inspiration. She never tries to impress and her sophistication comes from within--a hairstyle shouldn't overshadow that. She's always had impeccably chic personal style and I wanted her hair to reflect that on the red carpet.”

How to get the look:

2011 Oscars Makeup: Nicole Kidman

Sunday, February 27, 2011

Nicole Kidman's makeup look was created by makeup artist Angela Levin. The inspiration:
"Nicole's Oscar look was glamorous Hollywood with a Brigitte Bardot twist. She looked sexy and playful! Beautiful glowing pale lips, rosy cheeks, and glamour were my inspiration, concentrating on her beautiful eyes and gorgeous skin."

How-to:

2011 Oscars Makeup: Anne Hathaway

The gorgeous Anne Hathaway's 2011 Oscars makeup concept was created by makeup artist Kate Lee.

Says Kate, “Anne wore a red Valentino Couture archive dress on the red carpet. The look was centered around a thin black lined eye with a defined socket and a deep rose lip stain. For a base, I used CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Limpide, which I used throughout the show. For concelear, I used Kanebo Brush Type Concealer in CB 1 Light. To create a fresh glow on her cheeks, I used CHANEL Powder Blush in Fresque, and defined cheek bones with Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium. I created a black line created with Bobbi Brown longwear gel liner in Black Ink. The eye socket was defined with Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow in Truth, and I applied CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir. On her lips, I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Rivoli, and lightly powdered over her mouth for a matte effect. In between changes I used By Terry Rose Salve to remove lip colors and keep lips fresh.”

I loved her many looks, but especially that beautifully lined eye. What's your Anne Hathaway stance?

Rihanna And Ryan Phillippe Dating?

Rihanna and Ryan Phillippe dating seems a bit... odd to me.

I don't know. Rihanna is like, the hottest gal going right now. She can date anyone. So why is she sprogging up with, like, the 11th hottest Ryan after Reynolds and Gosling? I mean, Ryan Phillipe appears on the spectrum before Seacrest. But that's not saying much.

What do you guys think?

Medifast and Nutrisystem: Review and Discount Coupons

This post is featured by WeightLossTriumph and written by guest blogger Matthew.

The US weight management market is estimated to reach $500 billion in 2014 as millions of people start a new diet each year. But whereas fad diets come and go, one weight loss program that is based on science and clinical studies has been helping America get thinner and healthier for over 30 years.

Medifast is emerging as a destination for overweight people who are looking to shed the pounds safely and permanently.

What is Medifast?

Medifast is a proven weight management program. The company (Medifast, Inc) is based in Maryland (USA) and is one of the top 100 fastest-growing small public companies rising above their competitor Nutrisystem.
The plan has a successful history of over 3 decades. Unlike other popular weight loss programs (Weight Watchers, Atkins, Nutrisystem, etc), Medifast boasts the recommendation of over 20,000 doctors.

How Does Medifast Work?

The program works by replacing 5 of your 6 daily meals with nutritionally balanced pre-packaged food. More than 70 food items (in the form of soups, shakes, bars, pancakes, puddings, drinks, etc) comprise the variety of Medifast meals that cater to different taste likes and preferences. The 6th meal is called Green and Lean and dieters themselves prepare it. It consists of a lean protein source (turkey, chicken, low fat cheese, etc) and low carb vegetables.

How Much Weight Will I Lose?

Fat loss is achieved through calorie restriction. The daily calories you will be consuming while on the Medifast diet program is in the range of 800-1000. This results in 2-5 pounds weight loss weekly.

Medifast Coupons and Discount Codes

Unlike Nutrisystem, Medifast coupons available online every day. In fact, you should never pay the full price for this plan. A Medifast coupon code will save you $50. This is an 18% savings discount.

Who is Medifast Diet For?

I would recommend Medifast only to those who are mentally prepared to follow a proven, yet strict, low calorie diet with the purpose of losing weight fast and safely. There is a lot of support in this plan both during the weight loss phase and the transition phase, which aims to help you keep the weight off forever.

Guest author Matthew blogs at WeightLossTriumph, a source of weight loss program reviews and coupons for clinically studied diet plans, including a Nutrisystem discount code.

Channel A Look: 'The Hunger Games' "Beauty Base Zero"

Friday, February 25, 2011

Guys.
If you don't want to give up your entire lifestyle for the time it takes to read three books, then don't even get involved with The Hunger Games. That shit is RIVETING. I was so heavily involved, I could not put it DOWN. The novels are perfectly paced and build suspense like nothing I've read before. I literally skipped half of Fashion Week to run home to my duvet and Katniss and Peeta. Read on...

Random Beauty Product from Another Country I'm Irrationally Obsessed With: BeautyUK Eyeshadow Palette

    Thursday, February 24, 2011

The Beauty Product from Another Country I'm Irrationally Obsessed With column features international beauty gems that cross my path about which I feel you, the reader, are on a need-to-know.

This inexpensive little gem you see at the right is definitely reminiscent of the Bobbi Brights from Bobbi Brown moment of 2009. But much more affordable at £3.99. The BeautyUK Eyeshadow Palette boasts fun, springy Twiggy pop art colors (at least, that's what it conjures to me) in palatable doses (see, no one NEEDS a full pan of hot pink Rihanna lid shadow) at a very fair price.

In the words of Romy And Michele's High School Reunion's Lisa Luder? It's a fun, frisky use of color. Me likey!

Which Perfume Of Yore Embarrasses YOU The Most?

    Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Today, somehow my mind drifted to the disgustor perfumes I used to rock before I knew better. I got to thinking about how spritzing myself with a spray of a CAN of Malibu Musk just seemed to be the height of sophistication when I was 11. Chances are, if you invited me to your sleepover party or bat mitzvah, I celebrated by dousing myself in the eau de ew before showing up. I decided to ask my Twitter friends (twiends?) and Facebook peeps who weighed in. Some answers are hilarious. Especially Patrice Grell Yursik, who grew up in Trinidad and told me all about a British brand's fragrance she wore called Black Velvet by Yardley. Which naturally made me think of one of my favorite drugstore jamz, Black Velvet by Alannah Myles. Dolls, you'll want to do yourself a favor and read on...

    Fictionary: Big Crimpin'

Fictionary is a column showcasing beauty-related words that don't exist, but should.

My friend Keri Blair came up with the "Big Crimpin'" terminology, though she used it to describe her masses of crimped hair. I'm using it to discuss a little tip for gals with super fine, limp hair. The trick is this: Use a crimper underneath your locks--just the bottom quarter. Crimp from the roots to ear-level, then let the rest of the hair be and you'll note a major body infusion that will be undetectable. I recommend investing in the Conair CS68P MiniPro Crimping Iron, which is so adorably pocket-sized.

Best of all? You don't have to "spend Gs." The Conair mini-crimper will set you back a cool $16. At that price why would you ever thug [it], f*ck [it], love [it], or leave [it]?

    Well, maybe just love it.

Stockholm Syndrome: FACE Stockholm Nektar In Nyponros

I am having a THING with my new FACE Stockholm Nektar gloss in Nyponros, a sheer, mauve-berry glimmer. Truth be told: I was kind of over a high-gleam lip treatment. For moi, 2011's been all about the tinted balm. But this gloss is so hydrating that it counteracted the everlasting effects of my deathflu this past week, so I need no prior swipe of balm. I've also employed it as a highlighter and eye gloss with delightful results. Layer it over a stain for a more intense lip look. I've been loving it paired with a fine line of my Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Midnight Cowboy. To find out more, read on...

Britney Spears' Makeup In The 'Hold It Against Me' Video

    Thursday, February 17, 2011

Britney's back, bitches! Did you see the premiere of Britney Spears’ new music video for “Hold It Against Me” tonight? Well, I just got the scoop that MAKE UP FOR EVER’S Aqua Cream #2 in Steel was featured on-camera. Britney can actually be seen applying Aqua Cream #2 to her eyes in an opening dance sequence. Aqua Cream was a great choice for the video since the 100% sweat-proof, melt-proof formula guaranteed long-lasting color that stayed put through multiple dance numbers and under hot studio lights.  Check out the video on my other Internet home, MTV Buzzworthy.

I'm anxiously awaiting the release of Britney’s seventh album, “Femme Fatale,” on March 29th. Are we PSYCHED?

Spooky Savannah Special Backstage At Chris Benz

    Wednesday, February 16, 2011

    Credit: Beauty Blitz
Backstage, we bloggers were lucky enough to score an interview with Chris Benz himself about his Fall 2011 collection, inspired by the idea of Savannah and haunting beauty. Said Chris, "t’s a blend of old southern decorum/society mixed with younger art school girl. That’s the impetus for fall." The designer has been going once a month to Savannah to mentor students at SCAD, Savannah College of Art and Design. This collection is darker than his past ones, as Chris was struck by the idea of haunting beauty, drawn from  gorgeous graveyards and Spanish mosques. "Swampy colors, with hits of intense pigments," Chris specified. His favorite item from the line? "There’s some really gorgeous printed long gowns that look really spooky Savannah special!" Read on for details on the beauty look...

Ballerina Chic At Carmen Marc Valvo

The look for Carmen Marc Valvo's Fall 2011 collection is infinitely wearable, dolls. It's an unstructured, relaxed, pretty take on a prima ballerina.

Hairstylist Devin Toth for Ted Gibson points out that the look is "soft, not as lavish as a typical ballerina."  The hairstyle is half-up, with a little twist in the back to show movement. Devin used a curling iron just on the ends of the hair for bend. He prepped the models with Hair Sheets Styling and sprayed some Beautiful Hold Hairspray to set the look. Devin added final touches to the 'do by pulling out wisps in the front and finger-combing in the back. Read on for all the makeup details...

Glittery Brows and Rainforest Nails Backstage At Jen Kao

    Poseidon paws!

Backstage at Jen Kao, CND nails by Kristina Estabrooks were inspired by organic, living things in the swampy depths of nature. Long, almond shape nails were based with Gold Chrome and Midnight Sapphire, and accented with drops of Gold Pearl, Iced Blue Shimmer, and Midnight Sapphire for a psychedelic stained glass effect. An almost aquatic quality took hold to match mind-bogglingly twisted hair, green metallic eye shadow and glittery bronze brows.

I ADORE these long, swamp thing nails and all--but I'm into the glittery brows, as well. They remind me of an effect I produced myself in high school with this Lancome golden hair mascara (anyone else remember that?). Gleaming eyebrows are  a gorge gamechanger.

Downturned Eyes And Cheeks Backstage at Marc Jacobs

    Lady Gaga's Grammy Nail Concept

Say what you want about Lady Gaga (and I certainly do), but one thing she's ACTUALLY original about is her nails. I just got word that the nail color the pop star rocked at last night's Grammy Awards is a new addition to Deborah Lippmann’s line and is called Yellow Brick Road. Celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann selected the color with the star to complement the canary yellow outfit she donned during her stage performance.

Love! What do we think of the shade?
